Hey everybody!

Does anybody know if Apple has planned to use the reserve and pickup in store system that has been (successfully) used during the iPhone 6 launch?

It would be nice to know if they will be making it available at the same time with preorders.

Thanks!

Thanks. I saw that. Still, it's not completely clear wheter the reservation system will be up only for those opting in for the upgrade program or if it will be generally available for everyone.
More, the whole thing could be a US thing only (I'm in Europe).

Doubts apart, the wording "You can make a reservation online, starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT on September 12, to buy in store. We’ll help you get set up with the iPhone Upgrade Program." seems to mean that reservations will be available for any form of in store purchase.

Just got off chat with an apple specialist. The reservation for the appointment to setup the upgrade program does not reserve the phone itself. She said you have to do that online. She said I could do the preorder on line. I don't see that option on the apple store yet.

If it will be like last year, the reservation system will be totally disconnected from the ordering system. Last time I used it was a link placed somewhere on the site which led to a registration page asking to ender your Apple ID/password and letting you choose your favorite model and the time slot for pickup in store.
Guess that what the specialist meant was to reserve one phone then ask to enroll in the update program upon pickup.

I'm confused. It says on apples website that midnight on Friday which is 3 pm Saturday for me in China, I can preorder the iPhone 6S using the upgrade program. Which should reserve the phone that I come pick up on the 25...

Is this wrong?

AFAIK the upgrade program will be available in the US only at the moment.

What I am wondering is wether the in store reservation system will be generally available as it was for the iPhone 6 launch or not.

i just read on the verge you gotta schedule an appt to pick up the phone so what I'm thinking is midnight Friday you preorder to reserve the phone. I guess? I'll be back in the U.S. Before the 25

If you'll be in the US on launch date you won't have problems: the site clearly states that you'll be allowed to plan an appointment to subscribe to the upgrade program. Still unclear if reservations will be allowed for normal purchases.

Exactly. But usually on release date all the iPhone's are sold out bc of the resellers and people camping overnight. So im guessing the preorder for this program reserves your phone at the earliest date. ??

So it says you make a reservation to buy online in store at midnight Friday. So basically your reservation will guarantee there is an iPhone in your name?

Bc I've been reading here that making the reservation doesn't guarantee you a phone? That sounds wrong.

Last year you were allowed to reserve one or two units (without paying upfront) in a given store, then you had to show up at the store in the time slot you chose during the reservation. Your phone was reserved and waiting for you.
Obviously, not showing up at the store meant losing the phone. Hope they will do the same this year.

Last year? They didn't have this program last year. What are you talking about?

I believe this person means the ability to pre-order and pick up the phone from the Apple Store was available last year, just not the Upgrade Program part. I would assume the Upgrade Program will work like the reserve program did last year. At the pre-order time, one of the options will be to schedule a time to pick up the phone in the store. You are reserving the phone at this point and the model you pick will be in stock waiting for you. Apple is doing this to prevetn overnight lines.
