Reserving iphone 3gs doesn't mean you will get one at the store according to apple

I went through the process on the apple site of reserving the iphone 3gs to repleace my orginal iphone. Towards the end it says that reserving one does not guarantee you will get one. They are sold on first come first come basis in the apple store.
