does anyone know how to set the upper temperature tolerance to a higher temperature?

my trackpad sensor is always tweaking out and giving me the "suddenly sleep" symptom.

If i could just raise the temp beyond for instance 100 degrees C then it wouldn't sleep anymore

thanks

You can't. What you can do, however, is remove ApplePMU.kext from the /System/Library/Extensions folder and it will solve the problem (remember to do a sudo touch on the directory and then reboot for the changes to take effect).

Drawbacks to doing this:
  • PowerBook will run hotter
  • Backlit keyboard will not work
  • Battery meter will not work (the indicator on the battery itself will, however).
  • System will not reboot (when the screen goes black you must manually turn it off and switch it back on)

I'm assuming your machine is out of warranty or the solution would be obvious. Incidentally, Apple refuses to acknowledge this as a recurring problem on 15" PowerBooks (admitting only to the 17"). I wonder how many people are affected by this.

You can also replace the top case (~$249-299 depending on revision).
