If you need to reset the activity app data as well as the apple watch entries in the health app (i.e. HR BPM) follow these steps (requires to reset apple watch and pair again, you will loose your apple watch data)
- backup iphone and sync
- reset apple watch (on the watch settings/general/reset)
- restore iphone from backup
- in the watch app on iphone, remove the current paired watch (this will automatically create a watch backup that can be deleted later)
- pair apple watch and set-up as new
All the entries in the health app as well as activity app are now removed and you can start with a clean slate.
Notes:
Just resetting the watch and re-pairing will not remove the entries in the health and activity app on iphone; as a matter of fact, the health up will show both apple watches data under sources, with the prevoius paired one as unavailable.
Setting the watch as new ensures a clean slate start.
Should you for any reason want to restore your watch from backup you can select to restore from back-up instead of setting as new at the last step above (keep in mind that this might defeat the purpose as the watch backup also holds the previous activity app data).
Otherwise I suggest you delete the previous backup by going on the iphone to settings/general/manage space usage/apple watch.
As a last note, based on Apple's help article, a watch backup is created when you un-pair the watch from the iphone. So going forward if you have to reset the watch and restore from back-up, make sure you un-pair on the iphone apple watch so that the backup file gets created.
Hope this helps anyone that wants to reset their activity and health app watch data.
