hello i just bought an ipod touch from my friend, I wanted to reset all the settings since his email is on there for itunes. He also has the new App update to add applications. I was wondering if i erase everything from the ipod i would have to pay for the app update? or is there a way to just change the ituens email on the ipod?

Since you didn't buy the applications, you'll have to buy them yourself to be able to use them. Just go to settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase all content and settings. The software will be wiped clean for you to start using it.

oh yea im aware of that, but will i have to pay for the update again?

If your friend bought the update, the 2.0.x firmware should be somewhere on his computer. The name is something like "iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw." The numbers between the _ _ are different depending on which version he downloaded. Ask him to copy it for you, and you should be able to restore using that firmware without paying for it again.
