Resetting Mail but keeping "On My Mac folders"?

Hi everyone.
While playing around with Mail application to get rid of the duplicate sent mail issue, I have changed some settings and can't get things to work properly.

Now, I want to reset Mail.

AFAIK, I need to trash the Mail folder in my Library plus com.apple.mail.plist from the Preferences folder.

One thing that I'm not sure of is to restore the local folders (On My Mac folders) containing my locally stored emails.

I figured that I should go to Library-> Mail and copy "Mailboxes" folder to another location. Then, do the trashing, reset Mail and manually put the previously copied "Mailboxes" folder into Mail.

Am I correct? Can someone give a hand?

I woud export the mailboxes and then import them back in after the new setup.
