Over there....
My question is if i take one computer and share it's hdd's over gigabit directly to my server, is there any reason i can't then share it again over my actual network? i tried it and server admin let's me add it, but not modify the permissions (so i can't actually use it) but i assume that will be sorted if i give the server proper permissions on the host

If the machine is on the network and the drive shared the shared drive is network accessible. 1+1=2 :)

yess, i know that, what i mean is can i reshare a shared drive, a drive normally only accessible to server 1, so that it is accessible to the rest of the network and server 1 is controlling access

Yes, you can do this. Limiting access might require a bit more work though, if thats what you want to do.
