I was able to extract the app package for Resident Evil Village from my App Store purchases and install it on an older iPhone 12 Pro and despite what Apple says, the game could run on the A14 SoC. However even on the lowest graphical settings, there were frequent slowdowns, audio desyncs, and the occasional app crash. Still interesting, nonetheless.
 
It’s funny that we’ve (we as in “enthusiasts in general”), have always been amazed at the current performance standard only to notice the difference much later.

I recall when the iPhone 6s (A9) and 1st-gen iPad Pro (A9X) were launched, there were several threads after the game demos asking “is there anything on the App Store that remotely pushes the A9X?”, and today REV would probably not even run, even if it was on an efficient version like iOS 9.

Well the iPhone 15 Pro does have 7x more graphics performance than the 6S, lol. I was one of those enthusiasts amazed by the power of the 6S back when I purchased mine in early 2016.

Even though I don’t own one, I am happy to see AAA console games out on these phones just as a tech spectacle. I never thought I’d see such graphical fidelity on a tiny handheld device with minimal power draw and no active cooling.
