Hello,

i have a macbook MF839LL/A, which does support 4k display on an external display,

i have purchased a samsung 4k monitor, and it came supplied with a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, which i can't use as MacBook doesn't have DisplayPort,

so i then brought a HDMI to HDMI - and it does show amazing 4k display on the samsung monitor at 3840 x 2160 resolution, which is brilliant,

unfortunately my MacBook sits inside a dock, which covers up the HDMI port, so HDMI port isn't really accessible,

SO .. i then purchased a DisplayPort to Thunderbolt ... but the resolution is only restricted to 2560 x 1440 ?

so now I'm massively confused ... id like to 4k resolution, but i can't use the HDMI port on my mac, only the thunderbolt, why doesn't the thunderbolt port support 4k ?

many thanks in advance if someone can solve this probably very simple, an easy question for me 😬

stuart

its sorted i fixed it ! trial and error of all different cables .. for anyone that has this future problem - turns out the thunderbolt dock i was using did NOT support 4k resolution, so the box itself has to be able to support 4k out
