Resolution problem with Mac Mini

Hello everyone.Ever since i bought my Mini i can't deal with that problem.I have 2009 mini and i'm using 22inch display.However the max resolution i can achieve is 1280 X 960.If i choose the max res which is 1680 X 1050 the screen goes black and it says "no video input" Then i have to go trough safe mod to change it again.I'm using mini display port to vga to connect my display.It only has vga so i can't try with the dvi cable that came with the mini.I searched google and found some people with the same problem, however they use their minis with lcd tv's as htcp.So .. anyone have some ideas about how can i fix my problem ? tyvm

It's likely your monitor doesn't support that resolution.

I have a 2006 Mini and I'm also using a 22" display, but mine has dvi and hdmi connections. I never had any problems, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the VGA connection.

The monitor support the resolution.I used it on my PC before and everything was fine.
