I dont know if this a stupid question or not but..
is there a tweak or program or something that will let my mac get a higher resolution?

You don't want to.

Assuming that the Mac is connected to (or includes) an LCD monitor, run the resolution at the native resolution of the LCD panel. Anything more or less than that will produce substandard results.

You are not going to get higher quality by upping the number in a software parameter.

The one reason you may want to push the res higher, is to see more of a document - such as a spreadsheet that you must see all 50 columns of. Most programs let you do this in the program View or Zoom controls.
