iPod touch Restarting my Ipod touch

I have been having problems with restarting my ipod touch gen4. I recently found it and remembered it have a passcode but I dont remember the password so my first thought was to restart it. I tried that but the passcode lock is still there anyone know how to get rid of it. Any help is appreciated
