So for some odd reason my dad lost the password to our wireless router. I need too access it but obviously can't. I want to restart the router but don't want to "break" anything.

We have 4 computes (3 Mac and 1 Windows) and one Tivo connected to the router. Other than that, there is nothing special (besides the SSID and password, but I can fix that). So should I be worried, or am I being paranoid?

i'm guessing you'll have to reset the router back to factory settings by doing a hard reset..

then just configure it all up again (SSID/pwd) etc...

Yeah I would do a hard reset. I just didnt want to throw anything off.

Aside from a factory reset what else can you do if you've lost the password?

You can't even get into the settings to back up your current profile. Whatever port forwarding, wifi settings, etc you have will need to be reentered from scratch.

At any rate, resetting to factory defaults certainly won't damage the router in any way. The option is there for situations just like this.

Thanks. I will give it a go I guess.

P.S. Nice avatar.
