Restarting word fro mac

I have been having a file-loss problem with word 2011 so I closed the program and then restarted. However, every file I've used for the last week reloaded. How can i stop that?

Also, word 2011 isn't saving my files as backup although I have it set to do so every 10 mins. The files are not in Autorecover either. Anyone have a clue about how I can correct that?
