i have not noticed any change (that could not be explained as being caused by other factors).
a couple of things:
-on my apple watch i usually would set the low heart beat alarm to be set for anything under 50.
since there would be times when my heart rate would go to 48 or 49, the watch would, as expected, give an alert. so i turned off the alarm. however, a few months ago i turned on the alarm again set at 50. and during these few months i have received no low heart beat warnings during sleep.
but, there is no " new trend" information. i have come to respect apple's Health announcements about new trends. they seem to always be correct. so, in my case, i conclude there has been no big change in the algorithm that apple uses. or, its so little, as not to be of any significance.
- the other evidence i have is: on my daily runs and trail-running, i track closely my heat beats per minute for a certain long, steep section. it was always my goal to get my rate as high as possible on this section. but, over time that section has become easier for me to do, and actually my heart rate has decreased by about 10 beats for that section.
so, again, for me, i dont think apple has changed the algorithm.
that said, its only a general guideline for folks who dont need to care about a few beats difference. i dont think i would trust it as a medical device.
