Has anyone else noticed a change in resting heart rate since updating to watchOS 11.1? It seems like the way it's calculated has changed and mine is about 7 to 10 BPM higher than it used to be. When I actually check my heart rate, it does seem to be correct so the numbers are correct. I am not currently sick as far as I can tell.

Yes.Mine is about 5 bpm higher.

Huh. Mine has been the opposite. Due to running it's already low. I have barely got higher than 60 bpm all day. Definitely lower. Might be the new meds yet these claim to increase it, go figure.

According to the watch using various heart traces it’s 65bpm but actual wrist taking is 55bpm; so yes, I’m seeing 10bpm higher on the watch.
I also have a lot of skipped beats at rest but the watch misses them all and instead gives a totally wrong reading.

My resting heart reading has also change after os11.1

I sleep with my Ultra II my resting heart rate was reading between 40-43 for at least a month before the update, now it is 6-9 smp higher.

But but, if I reading the notification off low resting heart rate in health app, the reading is correct mine notification is set to below 50. And heart rate was between 40 and 42 this morning from 2am to 5.30am

Just checking right now, heart rate is under 50, and I get no notification as I do in the night or early morning. But some how the heart measuring right now is real time put in healt app under resting healt rate, going back before the update, I can not see this behavior.

So I get notification if my resting heart rate is below 50 in the night, but not in the day time. Some how is just pust some heart rate measuring in the resting heart rate area in health app. I there fore I get a higher reading of resting heart rate.

I am from Europe

You get notifications of low heart rate when the low rate persists for at least 10 minutes, not just when it dips below once. See Watch app, Tap Heart, read the text under "Low Heart Rate".

I’m having the same issue. I opened a case with apple and they closed it alleging that the device is not a medical device and fluctuations do occur. I do wear my watch to sleep and never turned on sleep schedule because it excludes sleeping HR. Since iOS 18 sleep report started to populate regardless of your sleep schedule is off. I’m considering suing apple for this

i have not noticed any change (that could not be explained as being caused by other factors).

a couple of things:

-on my apple watch i usually would set the low heart beat alarm to be set for anything under 50.
since there would be times when my heart rate would go to 48 or 49, the watch would, as expected, give an alert. so i turned off the alarm. however, a few months ago i turned on the alarm again set at 50. and during these few months i have received no low heart beat warnings during sleep.
but, there is no " new trend" information. i have come to respect apple's Health announcements about new trends. they seem to always be correct. so, in my case, i conclude there has been no big change in the algorithm that apple uses. or, its so little, as not to be of any significance.

- the other evidence i have is: on my daily runs and trail-running, i track closely my heat beats per minute for a certain long, steep section. it was always my goal to get my rate as high as possible on this section. but, over time that section has become easier for me to do, and actually my heart rate has decreased by about 10 beats for that section.

so, again, for me, i dont think apple has changed the algorithm.

that said, its only a general guideline for folks who dont need to care about a few beats difference. i dont think i would trust it as a medical device.

Do you wear your watch to sleep?

This is interesting I wonder why some folks are having this sudden increase in resting after 11.1 update and others aren’t. Maybe we should start a spreadsheet to account for all those variables

My resting heart rate has remained in the "normal" zone for me in the high 50s to low 60s since I reported it going back. There were no updates or anything around the time it happened. I wonder if I had a mild bug or something for a bit causing it, although I didn't feel any different.

Yes please let us know if you changed anything. Mine is still on average 10bpm above my previous normal
I figured out that an app, Elite HRV, was causing the increase in my average resting heart rate. The app was installed on November 2nd, which is also the first time I used it.

Elite HRV would record a heart rate between 70 and 80, while my watch would record a resting heart rate in the low 50s. Resulting in my resting heart rate avg to increase.

I deleted the app Monday and my resting heart rate average is back to normal.

My resting heart rate ticked up in November 2024, I put it down to a virus then Christmas indulgences. Now back to my normal exercise schedule, it hasn’t returned to pre November. Looking at my actual hourly numbers it looks, to me, that the algorithm has changed, only awake minimal heart rates are counted, sleeping heart rates are now rejected in the calculation.

My RHR increased in November due to a respiratory infection that hit me pretty hard and stopped me from running for about a month. Since then it has crept back down and my average for last week was at the same level as I had in September and October.
