Ok I have a 3GS with 4.01 installed and getting ready to sell it--I want to erase and restore keeping 4.01 so I can re-jailbreak it. How do I go about that because when I hook to Itunes it wants to restore and update to latest software!

Whats weird is I went into the phone and did the settings/general/reset /erase all content and settings---now the phone gets stuck with the apple boot-up logo and stalls there and will not go any further.

Thing phone for all intent and purpose is non functional because I already have a new 4 and this GS is not a working phone

I put into DFU mode and Itunes recognizes it but still wants to upload the newest software

What did you expect it to do when you erased all content and settings?
It deleted everything including the iphone OS and only way to start it is to restore.
Its better to ask questions first if you're not sure what you're doing.
If you dont have shsh's saved for previous firmware saved on cydias server you wont be able to restore to anything but the latest 4.1
Download and run tinyumbrella to find out if there is any saved for your device.

This is exactly and absolutely correct.
Sadly, after what you have done to the phone, without saved hashes, you must restore to current firmware (4.1)

unfortunately i did the exact same thing...:(

I realy need to unlock that iphone 3gs... is there any solutions outhere?

I cant restore the 4.0.1 ispw, getting the 3194 error.
