I used "data rescue" on my mac to clone a 320GB WD internal hard drive containing windows seven. It saved the clone as a dmg file with 3 partitions: system, factory image, Compaq. I tried to use a sata power adapter on the internal hard drive (after the dmg backup file was made) and it went up in smoke. I purchased a new hard drive and would like to restore it using the dmg backup. I tried using DiskUtility to do the restore but it spits out "restore failure could not validate source - invalid argument." I tried using superduper but it will not let me restore a NTFS drive. Now I'm stuck. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks

Try Carbon Copy Cloner, it should be able to read from a mounted DMG file even though it is on a NTFS formatted drive.
Version 3.4.7 is the last free version of CCC.
