I have updated to 2.1 but have not played with my phone much since doing so a couple hours ago. I have 4 full plus a partial 5th home screens, with 12 apps per screen (I don't put all 16 b/c I find that the blank black space makes navigation easier) and each screen is themed. Essentials (incl. mostly Apple Apps), 3rd Party Essentials & Games, and the 3rd -5th screens are really seldom used stuff. There are probably about 30-40 installed apps on my phone, many of which I have found I never use, or have used once and never again.
Would it be a good idea to wipe my phone and rather than restore from a backup, restore to 2.1 blank, and then re-setup all my data - as in settings, media, etc. just to get back to a fresh start and reduce my number of Apps for optimal performance or would it be just the same as removing stuff now that 2.1 supposedly gives better battery life and stability/responsiveness?
Mostly I found that my phone never crashed Apps much but seems to lag often, not recognizing when I pushed the home button, or when I went into SMS, Maps, Contacts and other Apps, especially anytime I began typing, there would be a delay.
Since getting my iPhone 3G back in week 1 or 2, I have never wiped and restored or restored from a backup and my app crashing has been minimal, however my lagging issues have bothered me greatly since my original iPhone never lagged.
Also I have had 3G off, GPS off, WiFi off, operating only on EDGE with Push and Bluetooth turned on (I use the Apple BT headset) and do not use my iPhone that much daily. I cycled the battery three full times when I first got it and found that I got 6 days standby with little to no usage and few calls. But then started using it more and adding apps. Now I must recharge nightly. I am lucky to get 20-24 hours standby per full charge. Certainly not what my original iPhone got in the first several months, or even after close to a year. And this one has almost everything turned off. Yes I used the BT with my other iPhone.
Do you think I can expect significantly improved battery life with 2.1, and if so, again do you think it will be a good idea to wipe, restore, and reduce unused apps for optimal performance.
Thanks for any input.
