Restore backup from 2G (3.0.1) onto 3G (3.1.2)

Here's my issue. I have an iPhone 2G on 3.0.1 and bought my friends 3G on 3.1.2 since he upgraded to the 3GS. Can I restore my latest backup from my 2G onto the 3G without any issues?
