I found myself messing around with the icons of the different folders (i.e. Apps, Docs, Home, etc.) and the Hard Drive volume icon. The trouble now is I can't find how to restore to the original, default icons that came with my Mac.

I read somewhere that it is deep within the library/ something folder with all of the .icns files, I forget where exactly. Well I dragged the appropriate ones from there, and now all i see is the "Preview" file with "ICNS" (instead of the icon itself)... so in short, that didn't work.

Any ideas/experience with this?

Thanks.

Just to clarify,...

1. Select the item with the icon you want to change / restore.
2. Hit CMD-I or command-click and choose Get Info to show info
3. In the Info pane at the very top left you see the icon - click it to select it
4. Hit Delete - this will clear the custom icon and restore the original

Hope that helps a bit.
