Hi,
I moved my Download folder to another partition and created a sym link in my HOME dir to that location.

The problem is that now in Finder, I see the Download folder with a "link" icon. Is there a way of restoring the previous icon ?

I"m planning to do that also with Documents, Music, Movies .. folder

Thanks,
Tex

If you can find the original Downloads folder icon either on the internet or on your machine you should be able to replace the new icon with the old one. If you press CMD+I when you have the download folder selected then you can drag new icons on top of the icon shown (hope that makes sense).

yeah it make sense but do you know where the icons are supposed to be in OSX ?

I just had a look and can't find them anywhere. 'Google'ing did not seem to help me either. I will carry on looking.
thanks. I'm googleing as well.

EDIT: It's

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/

but dragging the icon to the "Info" box of my download folder doesn't seem to work though on the symbolic link. I have to do it on the target itself. But then, if I drag the icns file to the icon, I don't see the icon it self but a white "icns" Icon.

If I open the Info of another file e.g. Docs and copy (cmd c) the icon of the properties and then paste it to another folder's properties it works. But now I don't have any Download folder where I could copy the icon from. ... I hope it makes sense :)

You beat me to it

System ▸ Library ▸ CoreServices ▸ CoreTypes.bundle ▸ (control-click) Show Package Contents ▸ Contents ▸ Resources

Does it work?

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have exactly the same issue.

Has anyone been able to reset the icons of symlinks to their original?

I tried copying and pasting the original Download icon to the Download symlink info, but didn't work.

Thanks in advance
