Just got my 13 pro and I’m undecided what way to set it up. I’m coming from an 11 pro and can either restore from my iCloud backup or do the phone to phone migration. What are pros and cons of each and what is recommended by those who have done both?

Thanks in advance

I used iPhone to iPhone transfer to copy over my data from a iPhone 6S Plus to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. It was fast and when it was done, everything was copied over and setup as it was on the source iPhone. My 13 Pro Max was purchased sim free and the transfer even setup the eSim in 13 Pro Max, which was a nice surprise because I was expecting that I would have to do that separately.

Just make sure you do a backup as a fall back just in case.

Used iPhone to iPhone transfer as well to copy from iphone 11 to my 13 pro.

The only con I found was that it messed up my MS authenticator app. However, part of it might of been my fault as I didn't had it set up on my samsung tablet or set it up before I erased the old iphone 11.

If you have any 2 factor authentication apps on your old phone, get the backup codes or use the export feature before you erase your old iphone just in case. Better yet, set those up on your new phone before erasing your old phone.

That’s my biggest worry. I use google Authenticator mostly (I do have another I use for work) and I did read how to move google authentication over to the new phone but I’m not sure if migrating phone to phone will mess that up anyway.

When I used google authenticator years ago when my old google email was my main (pre xbox one days), I had to undo the 2 factor and then redo it and was a pain in the butt. I then moved to 1password for most or all of my 2 factor auth when they brought that feature over and I haven't looked back. the only reason I use the MS authenticator is for 2 factor authentication for my 1password account and verification when i log into my MS account.

If you just want another alternative to google authenticator, I heard good things about authy.

Virtually everything gets copied over with phone to phone transfer but there can be tidbits missing. Maybe important, maybe not.
