got my iphone x today. Trying to restore from my 6s backup but getting error that says ‘incorrect password or unsupported version’

Back up was made from ios 11.0.3. New iphone x is 11.0.1. I assume i need to update iphone x first? That will put iphone x to 11.1. Can i restore a 11.0.3 backup to an 11.1 iphone?

If i meed to update, can i setup phone as new, update ios, then Restore from backup using itunes?

Sorry if silly q, havent upgraded in a couple of years

Supposedly the X will activate to the latest iOS (11.1) if the backup is from a newer version of what's on the X. But, maybe that's only if your backup is already based on 11.1.

In any case, you can do as you suggest, activate the X as a new iPhone (no prior backup) then restore it to install 11.1 and it will have no problem loading your 11.0.3 backup.
