First off, I apologise if this has been brought up before but I did a search and only found discussions about people restoring from 3G and 3GS.

If i currently have an original iPhone (running 3.1.3), a restore will be compatible with a new iPhone 4? Just wondering since I know iOS 4 won't work on the original...

The restore is going to add your apps and data onto your iPhone so there shouldn't be any issues with going that route.

Yeah it should be no problem at all. Everything should load up normally. If you are experiencing issues or bad battery life, then you should try setting it up as a new phone and loading all your stuff back manually.

The battery life on my 3GS was horrible due to restoring from my original iPhone backup. Setting it up as a new phone fixed all the issues.

And when I say horrible, I mean it would lose 4% per hour in standby and I'd get 2 hours of browsing.
