I just installed anew SSD on my 15" MBP, formatted the HD and did a restore from Time Machine.

My previous disk had ~450GB used on it.
My new SSD after restore has 357GB on it.

I have used this machine for years, could the missing files be various backups and start up and scratch disk data from iOS and Photoshop? I haven't found anything missing yet. Any thought are greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: Looks like my iPhoto library is gone :-(

TM does not save various cache and swap files and it also does not save the hidden local backups file. Add that all up and it could account for the difference.

That local backups file is likely the largest difference. Go to the storage tab of About this Mac and you can see it in purple.
