I tried updating to 2.0.1 and in the process it failed.

It then rebooted the iPhone and iTunes told me I had to do a restore, which was the only option. I couldn't pick a date to restore from or anything like that. Just restore only.

It's has failed every time and I've tired 3 times now.

What can I do to fix this?

Is there anything at all that can be done?

Edit: Deleting the ipsw files seems to have done the trick.

is your phone jailbroken?

Not jailbroken.

When I connect it to iTunes it says "Itunes has detected and iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes"

I click on "OK" and then the only thing I can click on on the Summary tab (only tab available) is restore. Next to restore it says "if you are experiencing problems with your iPhone, you can restore its original settings by clicking Restore."

When I click Restore, it says it's repairing and then restoring. It gets about 6/8 of the way done and then fails giving me a "error 6" also.

I just renamed my *.ipsw file and then reopened iTunes, this time it acted like it was doing an upgraded to 2.0.1 like when I updated my wife's iPhone, which is different than what it's done the past 3 times. It's now downloading the update, I'll post back the results.
