Restore iphone without losing app data

Hi, my 3GS is giving me lots of problems. I'm thinking of setting it up as new without restoring from a backup, because the backup would just put the faulty things back in again.

There are programs that allow me to extract certain kinds of app data and placing them on a different iphone.
Does anyone know of a method to get my app data (texts, game data, etc) on an iphone that's set up as new?

Okay, managed to do this myself.

Only didn't transfer all of my texts. But save data and whatsapp messages have been transferred.

Anyone know how to get my old texts on my new setup? I still have my old backup.
