i'm having a little trouble wording my question, but let me explain. i have my ipod and iphone set to manual sync. what i want to be able to do especially with my iphone is restore my musical content back the way it was after a wipe.

in other words, my iphone, for example holds 16gb but i'm fortunate enough to have a 50gb music library. i don't want to write down or remember what i had on them. how would i "back it up" or keep a playlist of their contents. i want the ipod library to mirror what it was before it was formatted or whatever.

i know someone is bound to tell me to just do a backup and restore in regards to my iphone, but i like to start over with a clean firmware upgrade.

any ideas?
