Restore Lion on Snow Leopard Computer?

Can you restore from backup a lion system backup on a computer running snow leopard without upgrading the computer to lion first?

It should be able to. Note that restoring from Time Machine will wipe the contents of the hard drive.

Yes, that is what I am expecting. I'm copying computers for school from one mac that has Lion and school programs and settings on it, but the other 6 computers have 10.6 and nothing on them.
