Restore or back-up?

My iPhone gets VERY hot in the upper right Corner . Nearby the lockbutton. also on the backside gets VERY hot while charging. When it reaches 100% ( takes 4-5 hours to get full capacity) its like the phone is in sleepmode. When i use it ( web, sms, calls) i can't even Hold it my hand because of the heat!
I have read that I should do a factory restore and not from a back-up. But after doing the full restore should I select set-up as new phone or backup and then sync my apps and contacts?

I know it's annoying but i would set up as new then retore contacts and apps through your itunes.
