Restore space on Mac partition / Keeping Windows side safe

I want to delete all the data on the mac partition, while keeping the Windows side untouched. I will be reinstalling Mac OSX on a new partition.
I want to make sure I'm good before I do anything.

Do I simply delete the partition and create a new one? Or will that affect the Windows partition?

I know that doing this for the Windows side will be safe, but I don't know if I can split the Windows partition after deleting the Mac side.

You could just erase the partition and that is it, as erasing the partition via Disk Utility will format it in the correct format and you can again install Mac OS X.

Oh! Silly me, I thought that when I deleted the partition it would literally be deleted, and I would have to create a new one. And the issue of splitting the windows side was new to me.
