Hi there, I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and lately its been playing up and constantly shutting down and restarting.

So I want to completely restore it to factory settings.
I currently run Mountain Lion on it and when I restore it, it will go back to Snow Leopard.

So two question.
1. How do I restore it to factory settings?
2. Can I go from SL to ML without Lion?

Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ok so i watched a tutorial online and am now waiting for ML to download on my laptop.

I'm not clear what your end goal is? Do you want to end up on SL or ML?

If you have ML now and want to clean install ML, that is very easy. Just command-r boot to recovery then use Disk Util to erase Macintosh HD. Then quit Disk Util and click install OS. It will take a while as the 4.7GB installer will need to DL from Apple's servers.
