Restore to JB backup or not?

I'm running 3.2 on my iPad and it was jailbroken with Spirit, so I could purchase MyWi.

Anyways, let's say I want to install 3.2 or upgrade to 3.2.1; I know then it would restore it back to a fresh slate—can I restore a virgin firmware from the my latest jailbroken backup (with my files and settings) or do I have to restore to the last backup before I jailbroke it?

Just to be clear, this question isn't limited to the iPad; I intend the responses to include those for the iPhone as well—reason I posted here.

You can restore from a jailbroken backup. The preferences will still remain though. If you have hidden any apps, be sure to unhide them or else you won't see them again.
