Restore without SHSH

Hi guys. My friend has an iPhone (1st gen, week 11), which someone jailbroke for him (not me). Of course, his SHSH was not backed up, and now he has problems. It turns on, then shuts off after the logo now. Please help me, if you can. Also, is there any way to extract data from it?

Shsh's only matter on 3GS models.

So, I can restore the iPhone by shift-clicking the Restore button in iTunes and using 3.1.2, just run Blackra1n?

Is there any (easy) way of extracting the data that is currently on it?

You can back it up in itunes before and then restore from backup when you're done restoring and JB it.

I dont think so.
If it doesnt turn on for itunes to recognize it so you can back it up then theres nothing you can do.
Hope they had a backup on their itunes if they synced it recently.
