Just FYI:

I was running iOS 4.1 since release day and since it is a beta 1, there are a few bugs that are bothering my everyday use such as:

* MMS - images sent and received are BLACK. You can tap and hold the black image and select save, it will appear in your photos. However, if you go back into the SMS app after doing the save image feature, the app will crash and not restart (this crashing happens randomly; sometimes not at all)

* The camera shutter lag - there is a slight >.5 second lag compared to iOS 4.0 - now it is definitely more noticeable after you snap a picture, the shutter doesn't seem to be instantaneous; but you can keep hitting the capture button and the camera will snap one image after another.

* Baseband is updated

* The bars (visually measuring AT&T's crappy network) is reworked but other than that, the grip of death still applies

* Proximity sensor still is flaky even with iOS 4.1 beta 1

So I know the JB will be released this week (don't ask me how I know) - and I needed to go back to 4.0 - I will lose the sim unlock but I am on AT&T and don't plan on selling my iPhone 4. Just a heads up for folks who have upgraded to iOS 4.1, you can just downgrade back to iOS 4.0

Be sure to edit your /etc/hosts file to point to saurik's server. I did not back up my shsh blobs and if you don't have that gs.apple.com host line inside the host file, it won't allow you to downgrade.

Once you have completed the RESTORE, it will error out with a 1004 error. Just use the libusb-0.1.4.dylib with iRecovery and reboot your iPHone 4 back into normal mode having iOS 4.0 fully restored.

You can page me if you have any questions.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4 (32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

It's funny, mine didn't error out at the end. I put it into DFU mode and selected the 4.0.1 IPSW on my desktop and it worked fine.

I did not put mine into DFU - just an Options/Restore in iTunes 9.2 on snow leopard.

I restored back to 4.0 and not 4.0.1.

I see. I've got my SHSH blobs for 4.0 on file with Saurik but I didn't see the point in going back to 4.0 ... I'm sure the jailbreak will work with 4.0.1 as well, right?

I'm not gonna take that risk of using 4.1 and getting shafted on the JB :D

I just decided to go back to 4.0 - just in case. I'm guessing from their twitter messages that 4.0.1 is still safe. ;)

If you go to 4.0.1 and restore from apple's servers, your baseband will be downgraded back to 01.59.00 so you'd be able to unlock again. Right now we're unable to save the SHSH for te baseband in a usable fashion

Did I miss something ? Sim Unlock ? Are we talking about iPhone 4 ? How can unlock be availalble if JB is not our yet ?

Please explain what do you mean under:

...I will lose the sim unlock but ...

Thank you

thanks for the tip! Except I just needed to UPDATE to 4.0.1 - then the baseband returned to 1.59.00

After that, I downgraded again back to 4.0 with the baseband still intact.

No, I updated to 4.1 and baseband was updated as well. So I essentially lost the SIM UNLOCK potential. I just downgraded back to 4.0 originally - then suggested by Mavis to update to 4.0.1 - then my baseband reverted to 1.59.00

Now it's all good :)

Pretty nice being able to downgrade your baseband.

Yeah, kind of odd though.

I used iPhone umbrella on my iPhone 4 before any updates came out and it said I had my shsh thing done an sent to cydia but when I went to downgrade from 4.1 I checked the server and my phone never showed as havin shsh blob

Yeah...I'm asking how you know that. CLEARLY you want to look cool, like you have an "in", so impress me with your inside knowledge
