restored Mac OS 10.12.5 from TM and right click stopped working

I restored 10.12.5 from a TM backup because 10.12.6 made Parallels 11 stop working with a kernel panic on my 2014 Mac mini 2.4 GHz. my mouse is a microsoft wireless mobile mouse 4000 with 4 buttons. my mac stopped recognizing every button on my mouse except the left mouse button. going to system preferences>mouse and swapping the primary mouse button from left to right has no effect.
I need my mouse buttons back, please help.
