Restoring a 1st gen iPhone running 2.0

I upgraded to the 2.0 firmware last night from the leaked xml link from Mac. However, it has been really buggy and so I tried to restore it and download the actual file from iTunes. Whenever I hit restore, however, it says that it cannot find the software.

I searched around and tried the fix where you delete the Apple Mobile Device Support, then iTunes, then restarted and reinstalled...but it still is not allowing me to restore. Any help on a hard restore or some other way? Thanks

...in another thread, but still can't figure out why iTunes wouldn't restore...is it because it was the pre-release 2.0 firmware or what? Any help would be nice...I'm trying the link above as I type.
