I am selling my JB iPhone 3GS. I want to wipe it clean though.

What would be the best way to restore it/wipe it clean?

iTunes?

If I do, does it lose the JB?

Thanks

Do you want to keep the JB or lose the JB?

If you want to make sure all your stuff is gone:

Settings->General->Reset->Erase All Content And Settings

Then do a DFU restore, and set up as new, or just leave it unactivated, but make sure to yank your SIM card out.

This will ensure that nothing is on that phone.

If you want to keep the JB, assuming the SHSH blobs are saved on Cydia:

Erase All Content And Settings
DFU Restore to a version that is JB-able
jailbreakme.com
ultrasn0w for unlock ability

If the SHSH blobs are not saved on Cydia, you can't re-JB, so just erase and DFU restore to the latest OS before getting it ready to sell.

In any case, make sure to get your SIM card out of the tray before packaging and dropping the phone off to be shipped.

Thank for this info :)

I have no sim in it right now, and I am staring at the "Erase All Content and Settings".

If I hit that and hand over the phone to the new buyer, is there anything of mine on the phone at all I should be concerned about?

Be careful with that. If you hit the button the phone will be left in a state where the new buyer must do a DFU restore. If they are not used to JB'd iPhones it will be quite a challenge for them. Don't know how you are selling it to them (eBay etc) but if you give it to them in that state you may risk them claiming against you as they may think it is just not working, or at least be prepared to totally talk them through the DFU restore process...

Much better just to do a full restore yourself before you give it to them...

I will be physically handing it over to them.

So I will go the iTunes route and restore to factory defaults.

Thanks again for the info, very much appreciated.

The reason I recommend the erase all content, then follow it up by a restore is mainly for certainty that everything is off the device. I'm sure that it would take a very good forensic expert to recover anything if someone just did a DFU restore, or even a plain OS restore in recovery mode.

If I hook it up to iTunes and do a restore to factory default, will it put 4.0.1 on it? Or will it put some version of OS 3 on it?
