My Apple TV 4 hit a glitch and would not start recently. The Apple logo would appear on the TV briefly, then disappear followed by black screen. The only way I revived it (thankfully) was with the built-in USB-C port connected to my Mac, followed by a successful restore.

My question is how can the 4K version of Apple TV 4 be restored in this situation without the USB-C port (that's missing)? It seems to me it can't and you're stuck, which is a shame.

It has been suggested that the Apple TV 4K can be restored using the following technique:

Restart the Apple TV multiple times by plugging it in, waiting 1 minute, unplugging, and repeating 3-5 times until it auto boots into recovery mode. From here you can erase the device and recommence the installation.

Okay thanks. I think I saw that technique, but couldn't believe it as it seemed so non-Apple and more like a last ditch user effort at whatever might work. But if it actually works, it would be good of course.

I also read that an Apple enthusiast group found a lightning port deep inside near the Ethernet port. I wonder if that might be used by Apple technicians to do a restore similarly like the USB-C port on the non-4K version.
