So I tried to restore my mom's old ipod (click wheel) on my old laptop for my dad but I've hit a snag. Apparently plugging it into a wall outlet is part of the process and they don't have a wall plug. I try to just plug it into the computer and nothing happens. I've tried holding the menu+select buttons and it does pop up the apple but when it goes away, the picture of a plug comes back up. What do I do? Have I bricked it? Is there any way around plugging it into the wall?

PS-newest itunes, windows laptop, first clickwheel ipod (i think), etc etc

Do you have a car charger? It should work. Plugging it into a USB hub that's not connected to a computer might work as well, although I haven't personally tried it. Otherwise your best bet is to borrow a charger (it only takes a few minutes) or head to an apple store and borrow one of the theirs.

Car charger worked like a charm. THANK YOU!
