Restoring/combining a Mail folder

I have a crashed MacBook Air and have been able to recover the /users/mail folder which I have copied to the desktop of my MacBook Pro.

How do I combine the existing Mail folder on the MBP with the recovered Mail folder from the MBA?

Trying to follow File/Import mailboxes/files in mbox format doesn't find any mbox files to import.
