Restoring files from dead hard drive?

Hello everyone,

I know a few tools / tricks for when restoring data from a 'dead' hard drive of a Windows machine, but hopeless on a mac restore. The hard drive isn't completely dead, it can still be read, but issues arise. Anyone have any tools / tricks that can help me out?

There is fews Mac software that offer Data Recovery but it isn't free. A good one that many seam to have success is Prosoft Data Rescue II.

I've heard that SpinRite works like magic... if you can pop your fubar hard drive into a functional PC.

I put a dying Toshiba in the freezer and was able to get files off it before it died.
