Restoring from a backup slow the phone down?

I have been trying Beta 5 and what not back and forth. I generally go back to iOS 4 quickly as I just still feel beta buggy etc. Is it slowing down my phone using a backup and restoring all my stuff or would a clean install always be better? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I do not want to lose my game save data lol

Are there really any differences between restoring clean and restoring data?
