Restoring from backup (tiger) onto new MBP

I wondered if anyone could help me with this..

I've backed up my files on my powerbook (tiger) using the software 'backup' and I wish to restore them onto my new MBP (using an external HD)... however I know that Snow Leopard doesn't have backup... does anyone have any ideas how I can restore them onto my new mac?
