A friend of mine is having problems with her iPhone 3G. I know the problems will be fixed by a restore, but she has a LOT of contacts, and can't risk losing them.

With a restore from backup, will it restore her contacts as well?

And I realize that iCloud would solve this entirely for her, but being on a 3G, she can't get iOS 5.0, ruling iCloud out.

Yes it will save contacts if you restore from a backup. However remember that any issues in that backup will be transferred to the new "backup".

What's the best method for her to back up her contacts so that she doesn't have to worry about them? I'd prefer to have her do a clean restore, as I know it will fix the issues she's having.
