Hello, I just got my iPhone 13 Pro, a little late but better late than never. I had an 11 Pro and backed it up on my computer (almost a full 256GB). I am now trying to restore my 13 from the backup and it has been 3+ hours with nothing happening.

Since there is no status bar I have no idea what's going on. I have had to restore my 11 Pro from a back up a few times and it took a few hours max. I am assuming this process is the same, yet there is no signs of progress. What should I do?

256GB worth of data and apps are a hefty chunk to restore from your computer. I would let it go on for a while longer before canceling out and trying again.

If an error is encountered during the restore process, it will stop and let you know. Otherwise it's sort of a low priority process that's going to take time.

Did you look at the "Manage Backup" option prior to doing the restore to make sure that the backup was in fact there and the correct date selected for the restore?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am using the correct backup I just made from my 11 Pro this morning (with the time and date stamp). While I agree with you it's a lot of data, as I noted, I have had to restore my 11 Pro a few times from a backup and it never took this long. I don't know if that's different than restoring a backup on a new phone though (doesn't seem like it would be).

Something I just thought of...... What version of iOS is your new 13 Pro running? If it came new out of the box with say iOS 15.0 or 15.1, it may be updating your 13 Pro to 15.2 at the same time.

Also, what's the storage capacity of your new 13 Pro? If it's a 256GB model, it's definitely going to take a long time to restore. (I would assume you purchased a larger storage capacity for your new 13 Pro.)

The 13 is 256, I never checked the iOS version. You're saying I should potentially update the 13 iOS and then try the restore?

Actually I'm surprised that when you started the restore from your computer (assuming through the Finder) that it didn't offer to update to the latest version of iOS.

But the reality is that your new 13 Pro has 256GB of storage which is the same amount as you're trying to restore. That's going to take forever to restore if it completes at all.

@chscag

Thanks so much for your suggestion to update to iOS 15.2! That solved it. I’m back in business now. Once I did that, I was able to see the “pie” status bar on the left hand rail of Finder, the main status bar was also moving (whereas before, it was full blue) and it said “Restore In Progress” on the phone itself. In total, it took about an hour to restore and then it will take additional time to load the tons of music and pics I have. Thanks again!
