Restoring from iCloud backup

Hey there,

My iPhone 5 is coming on Friday. I own an iPad 3, is it possible to restore from my iPad back or do I have to start fresh? 90 percent of my apps are universal and all my wifi and password settings are on here.

Can't wait for Friday!

not 100% sure, but I would think your contacts and apps would restore from a cloud backup. Even if it was from a ipad to a phone.

Sorry...I misunderstood the post and thought you were going iphone to iphone....the ipad part just did not register to me.

I do not believe this will work...especially with apps. I'm not sure if contacts would come over but being that they have seperate backups for iphone and ipad I don't know.

I don't know if it will be a restore exactly, but it should sync up your contacts and apps when you put in the same Apple ID when setting it up. I take it you didn't have an iPhone before, just the iPad right?

Yes you can restore from icloud backup. I would actually recommend you do so. It will reload your phones apps, settings, etc to exactly as they were on your previous phone....all your apps will load back on in teh same folders etc. Just make sure you have photo stream set to on in your icloud settings and do one last backup before you restore. That will ensure that your picutres also come over.

I did this all this weekend so I can vouch for it. My phone didn't miss a beat.

Also, your music will resync if you have it set to auto sync ceertain folders (like I do with my itunes). If you have it set to manual then obviously you'll have to manually add each of the albums you want all over again. That's the only downside.

You should be able to, at the very least, sync your contacts and stuff from your ipad to your computer and then sync that info back to the new iphone?

Yeah I meant in reference to his apps not coming over...his contacts should sync though.

That is what I would think. His calendar, contacts, and apps that are iphone compatible would sync....maybe even texts with contacts that use imessage.
