This is annoying, my Time Machine backup is not being detected by Migration Assistant before or after setup.
When I try to use my server where it normally backs up to, Migration Assistant says “mount failed”.
When I try to enter Recovery mode and use Restore From a Time Machine Backup, it instantly detects the backup and I can view series of iterations with different software versions, but Apple ruined this mode with M1 and now it won’t let me proceed, and tells me I have to use Migration Assistant.
If I set up the Mac as new and mount the sparsebundle, and open Migration Assistant after, then it will work, but the reason why I want to avoid this is because I want my Mac to restore data from the start, not replace and transfer data after. I don’t know the consequence of doing it after. And I can’t seem to mount it prior to setup.
Is there anything else I can do?
So far copying and pasting the backupdb files no longer work since macOS Monterey. Apple’s methods are getting unnecessarily more and more inconvenient.
