Hi,

My current iPad is running iOS 8.2 beta 3.

The question I have is that if I get a new iPad and the backup from my current iPad is for iOS 8.2 beta 3, what will happen with regards to restoring this backup to the new iPad?

Will it just work if the new iPad has iOS 8.1.2 out of the box, or do I need to restore my current iPad and downgrade to iOS 8.1.2 first and then restore the backup to it?

Thanks!

You cannot restore a backup from an iOS version higher than the current running version on your iOS device. A 8.2 backup will not work on any version <8.2. If you don't have your old backup you will not be able to restore it to an 8.1.2 device.

Now, there is a way, but I make no guarantees that it will work. If you manually edit your info.plist in your backup to 8.1.2 and then exit iTunes and re-open iTunes, the backup may function fine assuming no DB structures have changed.

I will try to update the iPad to iOS 8.2 beta 3 before I restore from the backup. I don't want to risk any glitching etc.
