My iPhone is currently (and has always been) restored from backup, which originally started on my iPhone 3G in 2008. It's starting to become a little slower than it once was, and the battery life seems to be lacking a bit, so I've decided that I'll do a clean restore.

When I have restored from backups in the past, the only things that it seems to back up (that can't just be simply synced from iTunes eg apps, music) are settings and text messages. Settings I can live with, no big deal, but how can I go about backing up my texts? I've read of ways of getting the texts onto my Mac, but is there anyway of putting these back onto the phone? (without 'restore from backup').
